Alumni Impact: Javier's Work with Public Council, A Los Angeles Law Firm

Javier is a member of PBS-HSA's first graduating class of 2013. He himself is a beneficient of DACA (Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals), an immigration policy by the Obama administration that allows undocumented immigrants who arrived as children (a.k.a. Dreamers) to stay in the country and work and go to school. He currently works with the Public Council to help others like him. Check out his video here!

Students in the LASPD Explorers Program

The Los Angeles School Police Department has an Explorers Program for youth that are interested in the field of Law Enforcement. Two PBS-HSA wolves are a part of the LAPD Explorers.

Seniors: Attend Google’s Computer Science Summer Institute!

Seniors, kick start your university studies in computer science with an unforgettable summer program at Google. Google's Computer Science Summer Institute (CSSI) is a three-week introduction to computer science for graduating high school seniors with a passion for technology — especially students from historically underrepresented groups in the field. Applications are due by March 2nd.

GSA Field Trip!

GSA is going on a field trip to the Models of Pride on Saturday, October 29th at USC from 8am - 6:30pm! Paper field trip slips are available from Ms. Fine in room 321. All students and staff are welcome!

Student Mock Election

On Tuesday, October 11th, 10th-12th grade students will be participating in a state-wide mock election. This mock election will provide students with an opportunity to make their beliefs known on who they think should be the leaders of our country, and what they think should be the laws of California. As young people become a larger part of the electorate, they will determine what this country will be like for generations to come.

These exceptional students have been accepted into Mayor Eric Garcetti’s 2016-17 Youth Council Cohort. After weeks of vetting through hundreds of applications, their submissions stood out among the many. The Mayor's Youth Council is a one-year fellowship for Los Angeles high school students to hone their leadership skills in the areas of political and civic engagement, and community volunteerism.
