Engineering Bridge Competition

Mr. Hoffman’s engineering class recently traveled to CSU Los Angeles to compete in the 14th annual bridge building competition sponsored by the City of Los Angeles and the American Society of Civil Engineers. After working for a month with a mentor from the City of LA Department of Engineering, HSA students faced off against teams from ten other schools in categories ranging from use of engineering in design; aesthetics; and overall bridge efficiency. The team of Carlos Barrientos, Esteban Aguilar, Kevin Salazar-Villa, and Ismael Amparo placed first in the aesthetics category. Other bridges tested were built by Jessica C. Guerrero and Claudia Trejo and by Anthony Aplicano, Ivan D. Hernandez, Fernando Sanchez, and Edgar de la Cruz. Well done!
