Congratulations to HSA’s New Student Body President and our New Associated Student Body Coordinator!

Brianna has served in a leadership role within HSA’s Associated Student Body (ASB) since her 9th grade year. Now, as a 12th grader she will culminate her experience at HSA serving as the school’s Student Body President where she will oversee school wide events, fundraisers, and service projects. Brianna is an inclusive leader amongst her peers and takes initiative to seize opportunities that will contribute to her growth and success. She serves in leadership positions in the school’s chapter of Health Occupations Students of America (HOSA), and is one of the participants in this year’s UCLA-HSA Physician’s Shadow Program. She was also selected as one of the LA youth who would participate in BET’s Experience Youth Program during the channel’s awards show weekend. Brianna has the goal of becoming a pediatric surgeon and anesthesiologist. For college, she would like to go to UCLA, UC San Francisco, Spelman University, or Howard University.

Mr. Elias Johansson-Miller used his skill set to bring out the “drama” from our students through various plays that our students put on last year in their Drama class. However, he also proved to be an invaluable addition to the HSA family by coordinating many events that helped bring the student and staff body closer together such as the Winter and Spring assemblies. Mr. Johansson-Miller also investigated, planned, and seized opportunities to give HSA students a chance to see dramatic productions put on by professionals - both on the HSA campus and off-campus. We are excited to pass the reigns of HSA’s Associated Student Body to a teacher that is committed to developing the leadership potential and confidence of our student body. Mr. Johansson-Miller graduated summa cum laude at Amherst College in Amherst, Massachusetts. He became a corps member in Teach For America in 2012 and is currently pursuing his Masters in Urban Education from Loyola Marymount University.
