LADY WOLVES DOMINATE BEHIND 'BEAST'

By Jason Miller
staff writer

Huntington Park, CA--

There was no taming the 'Beast'.

The Lady Wolves fought, scratched, and clawed their way to victory behind a virtuoso performance by  Destiney 'Beast' Powell.  Her triple-double of 18 points 10 rebounds and 10 steals led HSA to their first win in girls basketball Thursday night 28-6 over LA International Charter.

Powell's magnificence was the only the beginning.  The Lady Wolves arrived at LA International's hostile gym with only five players --meaning there would be no rest for the weary, and substitutes in case of foul trouble.  Coach Jason Miller was clearly worried, "Of course I was concerned, we were on the road, with only five players --our big girl (Regina) was out -- I was unsure about how the girls would respond."

They responded in dominating fashion.

Brandi Jones stifled the Lady Bulldogs with steals on the perimeter.  Ro'Shawndra Earvin hit a key third quarter jumper just as it seemed LA International had found their rhythm.  The ball handling and clutch shooting of Tatiana Wright took some of the pressure off of Powell.

But defense was clearly the story here.

Oriana Delone made herself valuable with timely steals and rebounds, when fouled she made her free throws, and gasped her way through playing the entire 32 minutes.

Yes, the performance can be termed as dominate --or should we say BEASTLY.
