FRESHMEN VISIT CALIFORNIA SCIENCE CENTER AND UNIVERSITY OF SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA

On November 28th, HSA 9th graders headed to the California Science Center.  After visiting the neighboring Memorial Rose Garden, they explored the new Ecosystems gallery at the center.  Through amazing interactive exhibits, students discovered new ways in which the physical and living worlds interact and rely on each other.  The visit helped to build on what they have been learning in their biology class throughout the semester.

The group then journeyed to USC, where student leaders led a tour of school grounds.  Tommy Trojan, one of several libraries, the media and communications area, and the trophy room were among the highlights of the tour. Tour guides also shared information on the many diverse programs at USC.

The campus visit also featured a talk by Ms. Corliss Bennett-McBride, Director of the school's Center for Black Cultural and Student Affairs.  Using the words of Rapper Sugar Free - "If you stay ready, you ain't gotta get ready" - she helped students understand the work they need to be doing now in order to ensure that they are ready for success in college and in life.  She also shared valuable insight about student life at USC.  Students then enjoyed lunch in Alumni Park, where they were able to interact with University students.

We are grateful to Ms. Bennett-McBride, our tour guides and everyone at USC for rolling out the cardinal red and gold carpet for us.  Fight on!
