JUNIORS EXPLORE CALIFORNIA STATE UNIVERSITY, LONG BEACH

On October 20th and 21st, our 11th graders broke in to two groups to travel to Long Beach to tour CSULB.

After a tour through the campus led by Heather Wantuch, Assistant to the Associate Dean, the students were broken into smaller groups for guided tours through the nursing simulation, food science, child development and kinesiology lab facilities in the Nursing and Family & Consumer Science Buildings.

They enjoyed lunch in the student union and were then treated to a panel presentation focused on careers in allied health.  Moderated by Associate Dean Dr. Sue Stanley, the panel featured the chairs of departments including kinesiology, nursing, health care administration, speech pathology and public health.

It was both a fun and eye-opening experience for our students. “The trip gave me a good look at what college is like,” shared Ismael G.  Classmate Regina C. said of the trip, “this experience opened my eyes to different careers and options I had not considered before.”  Ikea T. agreed, “what interested me about the trip was that I found more options and opportunities in health care.”

Our heartfelt thanks to Dean Kenneth Millar for organizing this wonderful experience for students, and to the leadership and staff of the College of Health and Human Services for making us feel so welcome.
