STUDENTS MEET BEST SELLING AUTHOR AND RENOWNED SCIENCE WRITER AT A SPECIAL UCLA EVENT

The event, presented by UCLA Live, was held in Royce Auditorium on the evening of Tuesday, November 1st.  Eighteen HSA sophomores and juniors were invited to attend as special guests of the UCLA Clinical and Translational Science Institute (CTSI).

In addition to complimentary tickets, the students received free copies of the book and were treated to a special dinner prior to the event, where they were joined by CTSI leadership.

The opportunity could not have been more relevant for our students.  Our goal at HSA is for our students to be inspired to become future leaders in health, and also to develop into strong health advocates for themselves and their families.

The book, and this event, provided an opportunity for them to learn more about varied subjects including race, morality, poverty, and bioethics, to name just a few.  It also introduced them to the idea of a health-focused career that centers around writing, two areas that many of them would have never associated before.

We are so grateful to Dr. Steven M. Dubinett, CTSI Program Director and Associate Vice Chancellor for Translational Science, and everyone at UCLA CTSI for including our students in this event.  It was an inspiring and thought provoking evening that they will always remember.
