In selecting the recipient of this first annual award, select Alliance College-Ready Public Schools board members reviewed criteria including:  hours volunteered by parents, number of parents attending educational workshops and parent-teacher conferences, increase in the level of parent involvement from year to year, results of the parent satisfaction survey, and consistent offering of high quality parent engagement opportunities.

Mary Silva, the Alliance's Director of Parent and Community Engagement, had the following to say about HSA's selection for this award, “Since Health Services Academy opened its doors, working in partnership with parents has been a priority. This school has demonstrated that engaging parents as partners is another component to helping students succeed at high levels.”

Our Parent Universities are held regularly throughout the year and cover critical topics such as bullying; stress management for students and parents; and installing positive values, respect, trust, responsibility, and courage in 21st Century Teens.  Monthly Parent Association meetings focus on parent/teacher/student relations, family events, support groups, college information, and student educational development.  Parents also commit numerous hours every year to volunteering.

We are so grateful to Lucia Contreras, HSA's parent liaison and counselor, for her commitment to building and growing our parent engagement program, and to all of our dedicated parents and families (just a few of whom are shown to the right) for playing such an active role in the education of their students and in the success of our school.
