Hugh O'Brian Youth Leadership Foundation (HOBY)

HOBY's mission is to inspire and develop our global community of volunteers and alumni to a lifetime dedicated to leadership, service and innovation. We accomplish this through several youth leadership programs, in particular, our state leadership seminars, our World Leadership Congress, and other international programs. This year, over 10,000 youth participated in our programs, adding to the over 425,000 lives HOBY has touched in 55 years. All of our programs are planned and run by local volunteers.

Our success is outstanding. A letter we recently received shows the impact HOBY can have on at-risk youth.
"I have had custody of James "Sean" Hancox for three years now and he came to us anemic, in poor health and carrying everything he has in a garbage bag. His mother abandoned him at age two and he lived in a mobile home and storage rooms in a junkyard, frequently without electricity. Food was scarce. He had little to no self-esteem at all. When he attended HOBY his entire outlook changed. This year he is making straight-A's for the first time. I believe his experiences at HOBY are responsible for his improvement. HOBY provided him with the ability to believe in himself. He has grown by leaps and bounds since his participation." - Karen Fincher, Sean's Guardian

This is but one example of HOBY's success and there are many more. In short, HOBY positively impacts the lives of our Ambassadors, inspiring them to creating and accepting leadership opportunities in their schools, neighborhoods and communities and to make a positive difference in the lives of others.
