HSA BEGINS PARTICIPATION IN THE "CollegeYES" PROGRAM

Alliance College-Ready Public Schools was one of 49 winning Investing in Innovation (i3) proposals, chosen from among nearly 1,700 applicants, to receive funding from the Department of Education.  The i3 fund is part of the historic American Recovery and Reinvestment Act's investment in school reform.  It supports local efforts to start or expand research-based innovative programs that help close the achievement gap and improve outcomes for high-need students.

CollegeYES is designed to encourage all students to complete technology projects of their own choosing - one in science and one focused on college readiness.  As part of the program, HSA will be provided with 30 Apple computers, and computer and application training.  During the 2011-2012 school year, every 9th grade HSA student will have the chance to earn a national certification in technology literacy.  When the students earn their certificates, they will have the opportunity to become peer mentors for next year's class of 9th graders.
