SOPHOMORES HOLD INFORMATION FAIR FOCUSED ON DIABETES

On Saturday, June 11th, dedicated 10th graders hosted an event on campus aimed at sharing what they had learned about the risks and dangers of diabetes mellitus, more commonly known simply as diabetes.   While the condition affects millions of Americans across the country, its prevalence is extremely high in African American and Latino communities, making it a critical topic for our South Los Angeles families.

After constructing six booths featuring informational posters they made in class, students spent the morning talking with community members and parents.  Topics covered ranged from prevention to diagnosis to living with diabetes.  The interactive format of the event enabled students and attendees to have an open dialogue, and all came away with pertinent information that they can use to care for and protect themselves and those around them.

Thank you to all of the students who devoted their Saturday to this terrific event, and a special thank you to our A&P Teacher Mr. Fitch for inspiring the project.
